Can you use your HSA or FSA for Planet Fitness?
Not by swiping your benefits card at the front desk — gym terminals decline HSA/FSA cards because gyms are coded as non-healthcare merchants. But if a physician documents that exercise treats a condition you have been diagnosed with, a Letter of Medical Necessity can make your Planet Fitness membership reimbursable from your HSA or FSA.
What you need
- A diagnosed condition that exercise treats (obesity, high blood pressure, prediabetes, high cholesterol, chronic back pain, depression, anxiety, and similar)
- A Letter of Medical Necessity dated before the membership period you claim
- Itemized billing records from your membership account
The steps, in order
- Get the letter first — reimbursement runs from its date forward
- Keep paying Planet Fitness normally (card on file), and download itemized billing statements
- Submit a claim to your HSA/FSA administrator with the letter and statements
- Renew the letter annually if you keep claiming
